Operation and Funding

The Genetics Society is run by an open meeting of the membership held each year at the spring meeting. It is governed by a Committee which is elected on a rotational basis and includes dedicated representatives from major fields of genetics, as well as separately elected officers and co-opted members with responsibilities for the society's finances, the meetings programme, newsletters, external relations and sponsorship. The Society's President, traditionally an eminent geneticist, is assisted by up to three Vice-presidents in promoting and disseminating the opinions and activities of the UK genetics community.

The Genetics Society is a registered charity, dependent on the subscription income provided from its members. It also derives a significant income from its journals and receives additional support from sponsors and advertisers.
