Membership

The Genetics Society meetings programme includes an annual spring meeting over three days on a topical area of interest(s), a prestigous one-day symposium each November and other one-day meetings on topics of special interest. Financial support may be available to members who want to organise one-off meetings. While anyone can attend a Genetics Society meeting, the registration fee is at a reduced rate for Genetics Society members .

For members only, the Genetics Society newsletter presents news and opinion on current issues of concern to geneticists and society at large. It also gives details of Genetics Society meetings and how to register plus a diary of externally organised courses and symposia on genetics. Journals Members receive large and exclusive discounts on many leading journals in genetics, including "Genes and Development", "Nature Genetics", "Trends in Genetics", "BioEssays", "Heredity", "Genes and Function", "Current Biology", "Current Opinion in Genetics and Development" and "Genetical Research". Details of these are also listed in the newsletter.

Members of the Society have free online access to the Society Journal, Heredity via the secure login on our website (see Publications).

In addition to receiving a discounted membership registration fee, students can apply for generous travel grants for attendance at Genetics Society meetings and additional discounts on journals. A prize of £200 is awarded to winners of the Trends in Genetics student poster competition which is held at the annual spring meeting. Genetics Society Promega Young Geneticist of the Year (PhD Students & Junior Postdocs only). The award is part of the Annual Spring Meeting with Young Geneticists submitting abstracts for review by the Society. A selection of successful applicants will be chosen to present their work as an oral presentation during the parallel sessions of the main Annual Meeting. Oral presentations will be judged by the Society plus a Promega representative and the awards will be presented at the Conference Dinner.
